OBITUARIES
Cathleen Vance
Cathleen “Belle” Annette Vance of
Maui, Hawaii, formerly of the Dayton area, died April 10, 2004, at her
residence. She was 43.
She received her bachelor’s degree from Antioch
College and was a former teacher for the Springfield City Schools. She
also taught in Equador and later in Hawaii.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, John
and Marie Vance Sr. and Frances Downard; stepfather, Richard L. Cabaniss;
and a cousin, Robert Wilson.
She is survived by her mother, Sally (Downard) Cabaniss
of Englewood; fiancé, Andrew Hraha of Hawaii; and siblings Richard
L. and Gladys Roach of Dayton and Vikki Marsh of Florida.
Graveside services were held on Saturday, July 3, at
the Spartanburg Cemetery in Spartanburg, Ind. Memorial contributions may
be made to Amnesty International, 322 8th Avenue, 10th floor, New York,
N.Y. 10001. Kindred Funeral Home in Englewood handled the arrangements.
Patton J. Banion
Patton J. Banion died Tuesday, July 6, in his home.
He was 77.
Born Oct. 10, 1926, he was the son of Leroy and Bertha
(Ellers) Banion. He was a member of American Legion Post 176, Teamsters
Local 654, Clark Company, Horseman’s Association and Southeastern
Quarterback Club. He was a retired truck driver. His most enjoyable moments
were watching his grandchildren participate in various sporting activities
and school projects.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth; one brother,
Junior; and one sister, Eunice Sharp.
He is survived by his children, Gail and Bob Varner,
Dwight Banion, Jeff and Teri Banion, Tim and Lynne Banion and Todd and
Cecile Banion, all of South Charleston, Dwain and Myra Banion, of Yellow
Springs and Alan and Cindi Banion of Springfield; grandchildren, Layla
and Dan Johnson, Deidra Banion, Adria and Nick Flanner, Tyler and Libby
Banion, Nathan Varner, Vincent, Nicholas and Haley Banion, Cody Banion,
Chelsey, Katie, Paul and Bryant Banion, Annie and Aaron Banion; five great-grandchildren;
siblings, Robert and Carol Banion, Doc and Florence Banion, Fred and Bonnie
Banion, Dean Lookabaugh and Alice and Tom Finney.
Visitation will be Thursday, July 8, from 6 to 9 p.m.,
in the Ingling Williams Funeral Home in South Charleston. Services will
be held Friday, July 9, 10 a.m., with interment following at Rose Hill
Mausoleum. Contributions may be made to Mercy Hospice.
