OBITUARIES

Rachel Williams

Rachel Anna Williams of Yellow Springs died Monday evening, April 26, in Ridgewood Nursing Home. She was 88.

Born on Nov. 21, 1915, in Greene County, she was the daughter of the late William C. and Anna (Ryman) Carter.

She was employed by Olan Mills and retired as a bookkeeper with the Springfield News-Sun. She was a member of the Clifton Presbyterian Church for 72 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Earl Williams, and a sister, Barbara E. Carter.

She is survived by many cousins, including Esther and Carl Pyles and Rita and Tom Waddle; and friends Barbara Dillingham and Rosalyn Shaw.

A gathering of family and friends will be held Thursday, April 29, 6–8 p.m., in the Littleton & Rue Funeral Home in Springfield, and one hour prior to the service on Friday, April 30, 2:30 p.m., in the funeral home. Burial will be in Clifton Cemetery.


Kletyce Hanes
Kletyce Hanes of Springfield died peacefully on Thursday morning, April 22, after battling a rare lymphoma form of cancer. She was 63.

Born Oct. 9, 1940, in Springfield, she was the daughter of A. Bryce Hill Sr. and Juanita Stephenson.

Mrs. Hanes was a graduate of Springfield High School. She enjoyed reading, boating, water skiing, traveling and was an avid tennis player. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and was an active, fun-loving person. She was a licensed real estate agent in Florida.

Her father and stepmother, Marie Hill, preceded her in death.

She is survived by her mother of St. Augustine, Fla.; her husband of 20 years, Richard Hanes; children, Tony and Sue Stapletoon of Pocatello, Idaho, Timothy Stapleton, Toby and Tonya Stapleton, all of Springfield, Sherri and Rick Dooley of Urbana, Susan and Dwayne Caudill of St. Paris and David Hanes of St. Paris; siblings, Doris Pedroni of St. Augustine, Deborah Hill and Burleson Grimes of Mechanicsburg, Arthur B. Hill Jr. of Urbana, Dianne and Tim Champney of Mechanicsburg, Steve Henry of South Charleston; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A private memorial service for the family will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1130 Vester Avenue, Springfield 45503. The family was served by the Littleton & Rue Funeral Home.


Donald P. Tyler
Donald P. Tyler of Yellow Springs died Sunday, April 25, in Miami Valley Hospital. He was 70.

He was born July 18, 1933, in Dayton. He served in the Air Force Reserve from 1952 to ’56. He retired from Dayton Power & Light after 32 years of service.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Esther Davies Tyler; daughter and son-in-law, Jody and Jim Butz of Hilliard, and their children, Elizabeth, Katherine and Jennifer; son and daughter-in-law, Todd and Lisa Tyler of Enon, and their children, Megan and Donald; daughter and son-in-law, Jill and Tom McDaniels of Sunbury, and their children, Jared, Joshua and Laura; and his sister, Linda Bower of Wadsworth.

Memorial services will be held Friday, April 30, 10:30 a.m., at Trinity United Church of Christ, 821 North Central Avenue in Fairborn. An open house will follow at 4811 Cornerstone Trail in Yellow Springs. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association. Arrangements entrusted to Belton Funeral Home in Fairborn.


Ellen N. Long
Ellen N. Long of Springfield died Thursday morning, April 22, in Friends Care Community. She was 85.

Born Dec. 10, 1918, in Union City, Ind., she was the daughter of Charles and Freida Bricker. Mrs. Long was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother. She worked at Northwood Hills Country Club for several years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harley Long; son, Larry Long; and two brothers, Bob Bricker and Woody Bricker.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Judith and Mike Flora of Springfield; daughter-in-law, Brenda Long; two sisters, Margaret Eaton of St. Paris and Maxine Borchers of St. Augustine, Fla.; five grandchildren and their spouses, Todd and Paula Flora, Denise and Greg King, Diane and Jimmy Lykins, Missy and Brett Simpsons, and D.J. and Lottie Long; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were held in Ferncliff Cemetery on Friday, April 23. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 2634 Lexington Avenue, Springfield, 45505; Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Avenue, Dayton 45420; or Friends Care Community, 150 East Herman Street, Yellow Springs 45387. The family was served by the Littleton & Rue Funeral Home.


Service to remember Stubblefield and Smith
Yellow Springs High School will host a memorial service for Bryon Scott Stubblefield and Arla Smith, two members of the school community who died two weeks ago in separate incidents.

All students and community members are invited to share their thoughts and memories at the service on Saturday, May 1, at 1 p.m., in the YSHS gym. Refreshments will be served following the service.
