Tennis team drops 3 matches
YSHS freshman Mori Rothman serving during his tough three-set loss against Waynesville last Thursday at home.

It was a tough week for the YSHS tennis team, which lost 0–5 last Wednesday to Greeneview, was toppled 1–4 by Waynesville on Thursday, and bested by Greenon 0–5 on Monday. The team is now 2–6.

On Wednesday, Duncan Silvert-Noftle lost first singles, 3–6, 2–6; Mori Rothman lost second singles, 3–6, 0–6; and Amy Price lost at third singles, 0–6, 1–6. Cary Dixon and Nic Huneck lost the first doubles match, 0–6, 5–7, and Nick Rittenhouse and Erin Silvert-Noftle dropped the second doubles match, 3–6, 3–6.

Against Waynesville, Scott Keyes lost at first singles, 1–6, 0–6. In second singles, Rothman played a grueling three-hour match, winning on aggressive points but ultimately succumbing, 6–7 (7–9), 7–6 (7–4), 3–6. Dixon won the third singles match, 4–6, 6–2, 7–5. Price and Rittenhouse lost at first doubles, 1–6, 2–6, and Paia LaPalombara and Laura Garcia lost second doubles, 1–6, 3–6.

The Bulldogs’ effort against Waynesville was considerably higher than it has been, coach Allen McCullough said. “We’re improving and headed in the right direction, and hopefully it will translate into victories in the future,” he said.

Against Greenon, Rothman lost at first singles, 2–6, 0–6, and Rittenhouse lost at second singles 1–6, 4–6. The Bulldogs forfeited the third singles match due to a lack of players. Garcia and Stephanie Goode lost at first doubles, 0–6, 0–6, and Hallie Cranos and Lila Jensen lost at second doubles, 1–6, 0–6.

The Bulldogs’ match on Tuesday against Stivers was cancelled due to rain.

YSHS baseball team falls to Troy
After having two games canceled last week, the YSHS baseball team was out of practice and lost to Troy Christian, 6–1, on Thursday. The Bulldogs are now 2–2.

Troy scored 2 runs early in the game against pitcher Dustin Rudegeair. In the third inning, Rudegeair and Clayton Wolfe bunched a couple of hits together, putting Rudegeair on third. Jake Fulton brought him home with a sacrifice fly, giving the ’Dogs their only run of the day. The Bulldogs had 2 hits while Troy had three.

Rudegeair had been pitching superbly when, midway through the game, he left to get on the bus for the YSHS senior trip. When Wolfe took the mound in the fifth inning, Troy scored 3 more runs courtesy of several errors by Yellow Springs.

“The other Bulldogs played their hearts out,” coach Chris Rainey said. “This is a bunch of guys that when they step on the field they are very competitive, and they work very hard.”

The Bulldogs’ games against Xenia Christian and Cedarville on April 13 and 14, respectively, were canceled due to weather.
