6th-grade hoops second in KTC

The Yellow Springs sixth-grade boys basketball team finished its season with an 8–3 season record and a KTC tournament record of 2–1. The team was the runner-up in the KTC pee-wee basketball league.

The sixth-graders compiled a 4–2 record and finished second in the Mini-March Madness tournament in Cedarville. The squad played six games in four days, including three games in a row in one night.

The sixth-grade team included players Ben Clonch, Quinthony Freeman, Christopher Johnson, Tre Hamilton, David Ingham, Alexis Onfroy-Curley, Ryan Phillips, Geoffrey Pitts, Matthew Rowe, Colby Silvert, Conor Stratton, Jerimiha Stubblefield and Ian Wimberly. Bryon Stubblefield was the head coach and Steve Scott served as the assistant coach.

Aquatic Club plans swim clinic

The Yellow Springs Aquatic Club will sponsor a stroke and turn clinic at the Antioch College swimming pool.

The clinic will begin Monday, April 5, and continue every Monday and Wednesday through May 19, from 5:15 to 6:30 p.m.

This swim program is open to all children in kindergarten through eighth grade who are comfortable in the water and can swim by themselves. Fees are $50 for one child and $75 for a family. Scholarship funds are available.

Registration forms will be sent home with all primary-aged schoolchildren and will be available at the first clinic. For more information, call coach David Wishart at 767-1415.

Soggy openers

The YSHS baseball team’s season opener was short lived after the team’s game at Newton on Monday was called after three innings because of rain. Play was stopped with the Bulldogs ahead 11–4.

Pitcher Dustin Rudegeair struck out six, and hit a grand slam during the Bulldogs’ 10-run third inning.

The game will possibly be continued if both weather and schedule allow it later in the season.

For now the team is pleased with its flash performance, coach Chris Rainey said. Both Jansen Adkins and Rudegeair were perfect at the plate. “We weren’t too sure how good we were going to be, but we now feel that there’s hope for us,” Rainey said.

Tennis match rained out

The YSHS tennis team’s home opener against Cedarville was also rained out on Monday. The match will be made up on Friday, April 2, at 4:30 p.m., at the Antioch tennis courts.

Youth soccer season

The Yellow Springs Recreational Soccer League’s spring season will kick off on Friday, April 9, and Saturday, April 10. Copper League, for 5-, 6- and 7-year-olds, will play on April 10, 10 a.m., behind the Morgan Building.

Those who played last fall are on the same team and will be contacted by their coaches. Anyone who did not play last fall and would like to be placed on a team, or for more information, call Jim Hardman at 767-2200.
