Edmond C. ‘Ted’
Turner
Edmond C. “Ted” Turner of Springfield, formerly of
Yellow Springs, died on Saturday, Feb. 28, at the Mercy St. John’s
Center after a long illness. He was 81.
He was born Aug. 31, 1922, in New York City, the son of Edmond C. Sr.
and Mary (Peebles) Turner.
He retired from Morris Bean & Company after 40 years. He was also
a founding member of the Greene Country Club and served on the country
club board of trustees.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Peter.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Virginia F. Turner of Springfield;
two sons and a daughter-in-law, Scott and Maria Turner of Congers, N.Y.,
and Mark Turner of Hilliard; two granddaughters, Jennifer and Marisa of
New York.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. In
lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to
a charity of one’s choice.
Thelma Jackson Kelly
Thelma Jackson Kelly of Wilberforce died after
a short illness on Wednesday, Feb. 25, at her home. She was 84.
Born on Oct. 12, 1919, in the Southland community of Lexa, Ark., she
was the daughter of Charles and Johnella Jackson.
She was educated at Eliza Miller School in Helena, Ark., and was a 1942
graduate of Wilberforce University. Following graduation, she moved back
to Arkansas, where she taught third grade at Eliza Miller School. She
returned to Ohio and worked at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. She left
Wright-Patt for Central State University, where she worked in the registrar’s
office and subsequently in the accounts payable department for 25 years.
She was a member of Holy Trinity AME Church and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Charles Jackson Jr.
and William Turner Jackson; a sister, Frankella Jordan; and brothers-in-law,
Harold Kelley and Howard Collier.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Thomas E. Kelly Sr.; daughter,
Carol Kelley, and grandson, Brenton West, of Brighton, Mass.; son, Thomas
E. Kelley Jr., and his wife, Helen, of Clayton; grandson, Tyrone Kelley,
and his wife, Nicole, of Xenia; sisters and brother-in-law, Hiawatha Woolford
of Lombard, Ill., and Blanche and Jack Ingram of San Luis Soyatlan Jalisco,
Mexico; step-granddaughters, DeNeale Luckie and her husband, Miguell,
Myla and Regina Jones and Lisa Asbury of Dayton; sister-in-law, Helen
Collier of Dayton; and niece, Marilyn Dowdell and her husband, Joseph,
of Yellow Springs.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 28, at Holy Trinity AME Church
in Wilberforce. Interment followed in Massie Creek Cemetery. In lieu of
flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wilberforce University,
