Arnold
William
M. Arnold died on Monday, Jan. 5, in Friends Care Community. He was 84.
Memorial services
will be held on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2 p.m., in the First Presbyterian Church,
1130 Highview Drive in Fairborn.
Charley Evans Jr.
Charley
M. Evans Jr. of Yellow Springs died on Sunday, Jan. 11, in his residence.
He was 72.
Born on Dec. 4, 1931,
in Birmingham, Ala., he was the son of Charley and Anna Mae Evans.
Mr. Evans served
in and retired from the United States Air Force. He also helped to develop
the first computers used in the Air Force. He was a member of VFW and
the Optimus Club in Yellow Springs.
He was preceded in
death by his father; his wife, Mollie Evans; one sister, Mary Hooks; and
two brothers, Phillip and Henry Evans.
He is survived by
his mother, Anna Mae Evans of Jonesboro, Ga.; two sons, Charley M. Evans
III and Clayton M. Evans, both of Yellow Springs; three sisters and brothers-in-law,
Estella Morrison of Phoenix, Jeanette and Ted Ball and Dorothy and Joe
Thomas, all of Atlanta; brothers and sisters-in-law, Rev. Sam Evans of
Pennsylvania, Sidney and Wilma Evans of Houston, Roy Evans of Phoenix
and Ricky and Sarah Evans of Jonesboro, Ga.; four grandchildren, Charley
Evans IV, Christopher Evans, Kristin Kessler and James Kessler.
A private visitation
will be held today (Thursday), with a graveside service following in Dayton
National Cemetery.
Mary Lou Dean
Mary Lou (Alexander)
Dean of Fairborn died Thursday, Jan. 8, at Dayspring Health Care Center.
She was 75.
She was born April
27, 1928, in Yellow Springs, the daughter of J. Arthur Alexander and Charlotte
Elizabeth (Gunckle) Alexander.
She was a lifelong
resident of Fairborn, a member of Mary Help of Christians Church, where
she had been very active for many years, an active member of Women’s
AGLOW, and a volunteer at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base Medical Center,
along with many other volunteer activities.
She was preceded
in death by her parents.
She is survived by
her husband of 54 years, Robert A. Dean; children and their spouses, Sherry
and Dennis Mummert of Fairborn and Steve and Linda Dean of Cincinnati;
a brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Barbara Alexander of Illinois;
a grandson, John Dean; and many nieces and nephews.
A mass of Christian
burial was held on Saturday, Jan. 10, at Mary Help of Christians Church
in Fairborn, with burial in Fairfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions
may be made to the church.
Wendell Suffron
Wendell Gene Suffron
of Fairborn died Sunday, Jan. 11, at Grandview Hospital. He was 80.
He was born Dec.
24, 1923, in West Union, the son of Harry and Lucille (Jodrey) Suffron,
who preceded him in death.
He was a World War
II veteran of the Air Force; a member of the American Legion Post 0888
of West Union, the Fairborn Masonic Lodge and the Auxiliary State Highway
Patrol in Xenia; and a ham radio operator.
He is survived by
his wife, Phyllis of Fairborn; sons and daughters-in-law, James Suffron
of Yellow Springs, Tommy and Sheila Suffron of Fairborn, Robert and Pamela
Suffron of Dayton and Daniel and Pamela Suffron of Huber Heights; stepdaughters,
Ann Barosky of Centerville and Linda Dew and her husband, Stephen of Lebanon;
sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Evalyn and Wayne Tressemer of Hebron,
Harriet and Ron Buxton of Lebanon and Martha and Bud Phelps of Cincinnati;
16 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Friends may call
at the Burcham Funeral Home in Fairborn today (Thursday) from 5 to 7 p.m.,
when services will be held. Graveside services with military honors will
be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 16, at Kirker Cemetery in West Union.
Herchel Barker
Herchel Barker of
Fairborn died Monday, Jan. 5, in his residence. He was 69.
Born June 11, 1934,
in West Liberty, Ky., he was the son of Bronson and Hattie (Perry) Barker.
He was retired from the Fairborn City Schools grounds and maintenance
department.
He was preceded in
death by his parents; his first wife, Carol Sue Barker, in 1964; and two
sons, Billie Barker and John Keeton.
He is survived by
his wife of 10 years, Connie; former wife, Sandra Barker of Fairborn;
sons and daughter-in-law, Roger and Jennifer Barker of Fairborn, Merle
Keeton of California and Marty Barker of Fairborn; daughters and sons-in-law,
Charlotte and Mike Collins of Yellow Springs, Jane Wood of Rolling Prairie,
Ind., Rita Candice and Max Martin of Fairborn; three stepdaughters, Brenda,
Cathy and Shirley; and numerous grandchildren.
Funeral services
were held on Saturday, Jan. 10, in the Belton Funeral Home in Fairborn,
with burial in Byron Cemetery.
Suzzette Lewis
Suzzette B. Lewis
of Xenia died on Friday, Jan. 2, at Hospitality Home West. She was 78.
She was born Sept.
8, 1925, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the daughter of John Thomas and Catherine
(Moylan) Skelly.
She retired from
the City Bank of New York in the customer service department and was a
member of the Catholic church.
She was preceded
in death by a sister, Dorothy Thompson.
She is survived by
two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Thomas Stafford of Xenia and
Suzette L. and Richard Haack of San Diego; grandchildren, Jill and Bryan
Niswander Adams, Mark and Craig Niswander and Amy Stafford; two sisters,
Katherine Schuler of Baldwin, N.Y., and Marion Ingebrethsen of Brooklyn.
Funeral services
were held on Monday, Jan. 5, at the McColaugh Funeral Home in Xenia, with
burial following in St. Paul Catholic Cemetery. Contributions may be sent
to the Alzheimer’s Association, Miami Valley Chapter, 3979 Summit
Glen Drive, Suite 100, Dayton, OH 45449.
Jane Slagle
Jane F. Slagle died
Sunday, Jan. 11, in Friends Care Community. She was 86.
Born Jan. 26, 1917,
in Springfield, she was the daughter of William and Josephine Parks. She
worked at the Ohio Masonic Home and Community Hospital, but spent most
of her life as a devoted wife and mother.
She was preceded
in death by her parents and husband, Frank.
She is survived by
daughters and sons-in-law, Bonnie and Dennis Collins, Sandra and Terry
Baker and Susan Trout, all of Springfield; sons, Thomas Tesch of Cleveland
and William Studer of Tennessee; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren;
and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Fred and Lucille Newsome of Springfield.
Visitation will be
held today (Thursday), at 10 a.m., followed by services at 11 a.m. in
the Jones-Kenney-Zechman Funeral Home in Springfield. Burial will follow
in Ferncliff Cemetery.
