Lady Bulldogs win first game
The Yellow Springs High School girls basketball team dominated all four quarters of the season’s first game, defeating Tri County North, 50–33, last Saturday on the road.

The Lady Bulldogs trailed close behind Greenon on Monday, and lost the game 75–68.

The team is now 1–1 and will face Stivers at its home opener next Monday.

The first quarter of Saturday’s game ended with a three point spread, 13–10, that increased with each quarter as the Lady Bulldogs grew back their basketball legs from last year.

Sophomore Megan Burrick and junior Evin Wimberly made a formidable pair, scoring over half the team’s points. Tricia McLinden and Sarah Finn scored 6 points each.

The Lady Bulldogs got off to a slow start on Monday, trailing Greenon 35–25 at the half. YSHS came out of the third quarter on fire, outscoring Greenon 24–19 during the period, cutting Greenon’s lead to 54–49.

By the fourth quarter, however, the Lady Bulldogs had only two varsity players left in the game, though YSHS stayed close as Greenon outscored the Lady ’Dogs by just 2 points during the period.

Wimberly had another great game, scoring 27 points and collecting 4 steals and 3 assists. Burrick hit three 3-pointers, was four for four from the free-throw line and scored 19 points. McLinden grabbed 3 offensive rebounds and racked up 16 points.

With another performance like last week’s, Wimberly could pass the 1,000 point mark during Monday’s game. Entering the season with 933 points during her first two years on the varsity team, she only needs 25 more points to hit a mark that most players can only hope to pass in all four years. Wimberly has two more years to play, and she is on pace to score 2,000 points during her high school career.

The YSHS junior varsity team defeated the Tri-County JV, 22–9.
