Girls basketball—
Lady ’Dogs win season opener

The Yellow Springs High School girls varsity basketball team overcame a slow start to win the season opener against Tri-County North Saturday, Nov. 23.

Sophomore Evin Wimberly led the Lady Bulldogs with 24 points as YSHS won at home, 45–38.

“The ladies had a little first-game jitters,” coach Shirley Cummins said, “but they pulled it all together. They kept their composure with different players stepping up when they needed to.”

The game was close for most of the game until YSHS pulled away in the fourth quarter. After falling behind in the first period, 6–7, the Lady Bulldogs led at the half 19–15. The Panthers stayed closed during the third quarter and trailed by 2 points, 27–29.

Wimberly also had seven steals, four assists and two blocks. Sophomore Tricia McLinden had 10 points and 5 steals.

Also scoring for YSHS were senior Ashlee Cooper with 4 points, junior Dana Ingham, 1 point, sophomores Sarah Finn, 4, and Jesslyn Yelton, 3.

Mary Keefe, a senior, and Finn led Lady Bulldogs with six rebounds.

Junior varsity wins

The YSHS junior varsity team also won its first game of the year, last Saturday, defeating the Tri-County JV squad, 29–15.

Megan Burrick led the reserves with 14 points. Becky Pasch had six points, Tina Chen collected four, and Keisha Favors and Laura Garcia both scored two points.

Both YSHS girls teams will play a doubleheader Monday, Dec. 2, at 6 p.m., when they host Greenon.
