Don
McAllister
Don Thomas McAllister of Yellow Springs
died at Kettering Medical Center on Thursday, March 4, with his wife of
55 years, Patty, at his side. He was 78.
Don was born in Circleville on April 10, 1931, to Thomas A. McAllister
and Pauline (Rupp) McAllister who, along with one sister, Donna Vorsteg,
preceded him in passing. Don was a graduate of Bryan High School, worked
with his father at McAllister Plumbing and Heating for many years and
retired after working for Greene and Montgomery counties as a plumbing
inspector. He was united in marriage with Patty Briggs on December 12,
1954, in Sacramento, Calif.
Don was a longtime member of Yellow Springs United Methodist Church, where
he was a member of the choir, board of trustees and served in a host of
positions of support and leadership. He was a member of the IOOF Lodge,
the American Legion, the Dulcimer Tune Weavers and a number of other music
groups in the area.
Don is survived by daughter Beverly Helms and her husband David of Texas,
son Michael McAllister of Springfield and daughter Kelly Nelson and her
husband Jeffrey of Ga. He is also survived by grandchildren Catherine
and Sarah Browning, Jan and Jake McAllister and Andrew and Rachel Nelson.
A memorial service for Don will be held at the Yellow Springs United Methodist
Church on Friday, March 12, at 3 p.m. The family will greet friends following
the service. Also, a carry-in dinner will be provided. The family asks
that, in lieu of flowers, any donations considered be offered to the Yellow
Springs United Methodist Church.
Rickey Dean Godwin Sr.
Rickey Dean Godwin Sr. of Yellow Springs,
formerly of Troy, died at his home on Thursday, March 4, 2010, surrounded
by his family and friends.
Rick spent his adult life working in the asphalt and paving industry,
where he made many lifelong friends. He also enjoyed throwing pots at
John Bryan Community Pottery. Rick was a big man with a huge, loving heart.
Rick is survived by his wife, Heather Knoth, his son, Rickey Godwin Jr.
and wife Kelsey, his daughter, Brandi Nulph, grandsons Hayden and Brody
Godwin, and granddaughter Haylie Nulph, all of Troy. Also surviving are
his parents, Dorothy and Jack Godwin of Troy, Harley and Carolyn Marcum
of Point Pleasant, W.Va., and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jerry
and Barbara Knoth of Yellow Springs.
Rick was blessed with many siblings who were an important part of his
life. They include Chuck Potter and wife Eileen, Jack Godwin and wife
Mary, Jeff Godwin and wife Cathy, Judie Godwin, and Jody Kennedy and husband
Rick, all of Troy, Lewis Marcum and wife Deana, and Wayne Marcum of Point
Pleasant, Marsha Marcum and Tammy Marcum of Nashville, Tenn., and Phillip
Marcum and wife Wendy of Houston, Texas. He is also survived by his brother-in-law
David Knoth and wife Cathy, and Tim Knoth and wife Jenny, all of Springboro. He
also leaves many nieces and nephews who loved their Uncle Rick.
Visitation was held Monday, March 8, at Jackson Lytle and Ingling Williams
Funeral Home in Yellow Springs. Graveside services were conducted at Riverside
Cemetery in Troy on Tuesday, March 9.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Greene County Humane
Society in Rick’s name.
